• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  I teach both **Mathematics and Tamil**, two subjects that I find meaningful in different ways.
  
  Mathematics has always interested me because it develops logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to approach challenges with confidence. I enjoy simplifying difficult concepts and helping students understand the steps behind every answer.
  
  Tamil is a language close to my heart. I enjoy its richness, beauty, and practical importance in everyday communication. I especially love helping non-Tamil-speaking learners develop their spoken Tamil skills so they can communicate comfortably in real-life situations, whether at home, at work, or while interacting with others.
  
  My interest in teaching both subjects has grown through my own learning journey and my experiences with students. I discovered that I truly enjoy explaining concepts in simple ways, adapting my teaching to each learner, and seeing students become more confident as they progress.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  My greatest motivation for teaching both Mathematics and Tamil is the happiness and confidence I see in students when they learn something new.
  
  In Mathematics, I enjoy helping students overcome the fear of numbers and understand that every problem can be solved with patience, practice, and the right guidance. In Tamil, I feel happy when learners begin using new words and sentences confidently in their daily conversations.
  
  I believe every student can learn, but each person may need a different explanation, pace, or teaching method. This motivates me to be patient, supportive, and creative in my classes.
  
  I chose teaching because I want to do more than simply complete lessons. I want to encourage students, build their confidence, and make learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

• How does your work help society?

  Education plays an important role in building a confident and capable society. As a Mathematics and Tamil tutor, I help students develop knowledge and practical skills that they can use in their academic, professional, and everyday lives.
  
  Through Mathematics, I help learners develop logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, patience, and confidence in handling challenges. Through Tamil, I help learners communicate more comfortably, connect with people, and appreciate the importance of language and culture.
  
  I believe that learning a language can bring people closer together, while learning Mathematics can help people make better decisions and approach problems with clarity.
  
  By making both subjects easier to understand and less intimidating, I hope to help my students become independent learners who are willing to ask questions, keep practising, and continue learning throughout life.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  My husband is my role model and one of my greatest sources of inspiration. I admire his dedication, patience, and the way he approaches challenges with a positive and determined attitude. His encouragement has helped me believe in myself and continue pursuing my passion for teaching.
  
  He inspires me to keep learning, improve my skills, and never give up when things become difficult. His support reminds me that teaching is not just about sharing knowledge, but also about being patient, understanding, and committed to helping others grow.
  
  I hope to bring these qualities into my own teaching by encouraging my students, supporting their learning journey, and helping them become confident individuals.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Outside teaching, I enjoy listening to music, cooking different varieties of food, and spending quality time with my children. Listening to music helps me relax and refresh my mind, while cooking gives me an opportunity to be creative and try something new.
  
  Spending time with my children is especially meaningful to me. I enjoy being involved in their activities, sharing little moments with them, and learning from their curiosity and enthusiasm. These hobbies help me maintain a healthy balance between my professional and personal life, and they keep me happy, creative, and energised.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  Throughout my professional journey as a teacher, I have always believed that teaching is more than simply explaining a subject. I enjoy finding simple and creative ways to make learning easier and helping students overcome their difficulties. One of the most rewarding experiences for me is seeing a student who was once hesitant become confident and independent in learning.
  
  One memorable experience was teaching Spoken Tamil to a doctor who is a paediatric oncologist. The student wanted to learn Tamil to communicate comfortably with Tamil-speaking patients as well as in everyday situations. I designed practical lessons around doctor–patient conversations and daily life. Seeing the student gradually gain confidence in speaking Tamil reminded me how meaningful teaching can be when it connects directly to a student's real-life needs.
