About Ella
I am a doctoral candidate in cello performance at the University of Minnesota and have earned my Master’s of Music at McGill University and Bachelor’s of Music from the Frost School of Music. For the past 9 years, I have been teaching private cello lessons to a wide range of ages and skill sets. I am passionate about musical collaboration, especially in chamber music and new music.
I have attended rigorous summer festivals, as well as performed in numerous masterclasses as both a soloist and chamber musician. In my education at the National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellowship Program at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., I have plenty of orchestral experience as well. I performed in numerous masterclasses throughout my career with notable musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma and the Danish String Quartet. Outside of performing, I founded and hosted the first classical show, 'Pando,' at the University of Miami's radio station.

If you want to learn how to play or improve your skills on the cello, I am ready to help! Lessons are the perfect opportunity to work towards a goal. Whether you have a specific challenge in mind (e.g. prepare for an upcoming audition) or a broader idea (e.g. wanting to grow as a cellist), I am here to get you to that goal and beyond. I have experience teaching young children to adults, and complete beginners to collegiate level.
No matter the age or skill set, my methodology always includes a healthy balance of technique, musicality, and health. In recovering from a past cello-related injury, I have experience and knowledge on how to be aware of the body while playing the cello and prevent injuries.
In my lessons, I assign an assortment of repertoire or skills to practice, and I encourage my students to work on pieces they are passionate about (whether I assigned it or not!). Students are always welcome to bring specific things to me to work on, such as a piece from their school orchestra. Above all, I encourage my students to find joy and enthusiasm in studying the cello.
