About Amy
Originally from Bethesda Maryland, I am currently located in Miami Florida where I am finishing my Doctorate at The University of Miami, Frost School of Music, graduating in the of Spring 2023. I received my Bachelor's degree at The University of Michigan and my Master's at The University of Texas, El Paso.
I am a Teaching Assistant for The Donna E. Shalala MusicReach program and a fellow of the Henry Mancini Orchestra. I also teach at two elementary schools, privately, and work at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Development.
My summers consist of teaching at Camp Encore-Coda in Sweden Maine as the Cello Teacher, Chamber Coach, and Philharmonic Orchestra Director.
In my free time, I love the outdoors, watching football, Go Ravens, and going to the beach.
I am looking to grow my current cello studio and make new connections. I aspire to be a teacher that a student can look up to as a mentor and support their development as a musician.

I have been teaching for over 10 years with students that are as young as 1st graders through the college level.
I believe in the concept of "Practice Makes Permanent" which stems from my late teacher Zuill Bailey. I was taught the importance of focused practice and methods in which to fix problems before they become habits. I also believe that students should understand why they are making mistakes and how to correct them rather than providing a quick fix.
I begin each lesson with a brief overview of the goals for the lesson. I follow a routine that consists of scales, short technical warm-ups, etudes, and solo works. I advise my students to follow the same routine from the lesson to their individual practice which provides a clear understanding of good practice habits.
Many of my students have come to me with a performance level that is higher than their conceptual understanding of the cello and does not understand what they are playing. I break down each problem and focus on the skills they are lacking in.
As someone who learned to play by ear and could not read music until college, I find my teaching is more methodical and can relate to many students who struggle with this issue.
I am constantly adjusting my teaching methods to fit the needs of my students. I allow for personal connections to be made with each of my students so they feel comfortable and confident in each lesson.
