About Suchismita

I'm Suchismita, a biotechnologist with a joint PhD in Bioprocess and Metabolic Engineering from IIT Madras in India and RWTH Aachen University in Germany. My research involved engineering bacteria to turn lignin, a plant waste product, into the building blocks of bio-based plastics. I've published this work in a peer-reviewed journal and presented it at international conferences.
Teaching has been part of my life throughout my research career. I spent two years as a teaching assistant at IIT Madras, supervised a Master's student through their full project, and mentored three research interns, several of whom went on to further study. I have also worked as a proctor for NPTEL, India's national online learning platform.
What I enjoy most is the moment a concept finally makes sense to someone. Biology is full of beautiful, logical mechanisms, and I'd love to help you see them that way too.

About the lesson

I teach Biology, Microbiology, Cell and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology to GCSE, A-Level and university students, online or in person around Haywards Heath and West Sussex.
My approach starts with where you are, not where the syllabus says you should be. In the first lesson we go through what you find confusing and build a plan around it. I explain concepts from the ground up using diagrams, real examples from the lab, and plenty of "why does this happen?" questions, so you understand the mechanism rather than memorise it. For exam students, we work through past papers together and practise writing answers the way examiners want to read them.
Lessons are relaxed and paced to you. No question is too basic, and I would rather spend ten extra minutes on a tricky idea than move on before it has clicked.
