About Catriona
In my youth, my devotion to learning the cello and piano was all-consuming. I studied music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with cello as my principal instrument. However, after some years as a cello performer, I started teaching both instruments. Increasingly, I have gravitated more towards teaching the piano and this is the job I now do with much passion.
I began teaching piano privately 20 years ago after experience of teaching cello in schools, and I find it immensely satisfying. I have experience of teaching up to the grade 8 level and also relish teaching music theory.

I do my best to adapt my teaching to suit individuals and to me it does not matter in the least how slow or how fast a student learns piano, and whether or not they wish to work towards ABRSM/Trinity exams. Exams are a useful tool for providing learning goals, but are not for everyone.
It is in my nature to be organised and I enjoy spending time preparing for lessons so that I can give my best to each student. Most of my students do well with 30-minute lessons weekly. (Half-hour lessons cost £17) and I prefer to teach children from the age of 9. I teach during the school term time and sort out a regular weekly slot for all students.
