About Jamie
Hi! I’m a Philosophy and Psychology student at Durham University with a strong interest in how people think, learn, and perform in exams. I’ve recently completed A-levels myself, so I understand how stressful and overwhelming revision can feel, especially in essay-based subjects like Psychology.
I’m particularly interested in helping students who feel that they “know the content” but struggle to turn that knowledge into high exam marks. A lot of my focus is on building confidence, improving essay structure, and learning how to evaluate studies and theories effectively rather than just memorising information.
I’m a patient and supportive tutor, and I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes while learning. I adapt my teaching to each student’s strengths and weaknesses, so lessons are always focused on what will help them improve most.
Outside of academics, I’m also a keen musician and enjoy playing the piano, which has helped me develop discipline and structured practice habits — something I try to pass on to my students in their study routines as well.

My lessons focus on building strong understanding of key psychological concepts and, just as importantly, learning how to apply them effectively in exam questions. Many students know the content but lose marks due to weak evaluation, poor structure, or misunderstanding what examiners are looking for — this is where I place a lot of emphasis.
