About Frances
I have a music degree, a piano teaching diploma and a school teaching certificate. I have taught piano to a wide variety of students over the past 40 years. I prepare some pupils for exams but exams are not essential for making good progress. I have never had a pupil fail an exam; I won't let them enter unless they are fully prepared. I have two pianos in my teaching room and often accompany students on the second piano, which adds a lot of fun to the lessons.

I have a friendly and light-hearted approach to my teaching, whilst addressing issues of posture, arm and finger technique, aural perception, music reading, and an understanding of the emotional and compositional aspects of pieces of music. I use a broad range of teaching techniques and styles of repertoire to suit individual pupils’ needs, and I encourage improvisation, playing by ear, and keyboard harmony at every stage of learning. Beginner lessons are usually 30 minutes long, typically increasing to 45 minutes after Grade 3 and to an hour after Grade 6. I email ‘rolling’ practice guidance notes to pupils and parents following each lesson. I have long experience working in schools and specialise in teaching school age children, both primary and secondary.

I am more than happy to provide a reference for Frances.
She has taught both of my daughters piano and music theory from reception to 6th Form. She is reliable, organised and professional at all times.
Frances has high standards for herself and her pupils and she really makes sure that a full musical understanding and skills are achieved rather than just focusing on ticking the boxes for the next exam. She makes sure that students are ready and fully prepared before submitting them for exams.
She is a real genius at assessing a student's needs and adapting and adjusting the way that she teaches to make sure that it achieves the best result with the different children she teaches. She has had a wide range of pupils in the time that my daughters have been pupils with different abilities and backgrounds. She goes above and beyond to foster a real love of music.
Frances has a lovely manner with students that gets the best out of them and my daughters have not only gained musical knowledge and skills but would count Frances as a friend.Frances is a great piano teacher. She teaches my son. She is trustworthy, dependable, has good communication skills, and also has excellent knowledge in this field.
Frances has taught my child for several years. She is great at what she does and my child loves their lessons
Frances taught my 10 year-old daughter the piano via Zoom throughout lockdown. She was my daughter's first piano tutor, so they were starting from scratch. I was a little apprehensive that she would struggle to maintain my daughter's focus via online lessons, but she was completely engaged from the outset. Frances was patient, encouraging and friendly. As a result, my daughter's progress on the piano was truly remarkable. In short, I cannot recommend Frances enough.
