Hi. My name is Elaine and I am a full-time professional tutor. I can help your child close gaps in reading, spelling, writing, and Maths in as little as 10 weeks. I offer online lessons and work with home-educated students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Maths and English.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a B. Ed. (Hons) degree from Reading University. and several diplomas, including in Performance Coaching, Special Educational Needs, Educational Psychology and Reading Intervention. I am currently taking an M.Ed. course.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £28 per hour. I offer all of my students a free initial assessment.
- Where do you teach?
I teach only online, which means no matter where you live, I am able to work with your child and help them to close gaps in learning.
- When are you available?
I currently teach classes on Monday - Thursday between 3 pm - 7 pm, which are all fully booked. I do, however, have some availability to work with home-educated students or international students on Thursdays 11:30 am - 12:30 pm GMT. I also have Tuesdays 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm and Thursdays 7:15 pm - 8:15 pm available.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach maths and English to students aged 5-14 years. I am happy to teach from the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence or from the National Curriculum, having had experience of delivering both. I also tutor international students.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use a video conferencing tool called Zoom to teach online lessons. This integrated well with every other available resource in my repertoire, including the use of an excellent interactive whiteboard called BitPaper. I am a firm believer in having fun while we work, so I can promise that my lessons will be fun and engaging.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you feel you struggle with maths, reading, spelling or writing, I know I can help you to perform better and feel more confident in your own ability. I can make learning fun!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have 25 years of teaching experience. I worked in schools in England between 1993 and 2010, holding several senior management posts including two deputy headships. I have been a private tutor since 2011 and have an excellent track record in improving children's understanding in many aspects of Maths and English. Please have a look at the YouTube video I have uploaded to find out a little more about me!
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an enhanced European Police Check.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained at Reading University as a teacher.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I work with all sorts of students, including children with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD and ASD. Most of my current students are face-to-face but I also do have some online home-educated students at the moment.
Elaine makes a difference with each child's knowledge quickly.
Ceola, my daughter has realised 'she's not silly or not paying attention' in the time allowed. Ceola is very proud saying, "I made progress in reading and comprehension in two months"
Elaine has given her the confidence to believe in her ability and a voice of reason to tell her teachers to slow down when needed. (That temporarily was scuppered with everyday normal schooling).
Elaine is a Super Duper Prof !!
P.s. I'm sure Elaine will give me a few tips after this ... comma, full stop..et all etc.
She is able to engage our child. We have had problems with concentration and loss of interest but Elaine’s classes keep him interested and we have seen a great improvement in his reading especially. Would be lost without her help.
Elaine is a great teacher. Great with the kids. My daughter is a nervous unconfident girl. Elaine really helped her understand the work, really brought her on and her confidence grew. I would highly recommend Elaine.
I met Elaine about 3 years ago when my son was struggling at school in particular with maths, spelling and reading comprehension. Elaine assessed him and we had a baseline to work from. He definitely progressed with Elaine's unique way of teaching, he loved the rewards and did well. I would highly recommend Elaine as she has a great insight into children and makes learning fun with great use of technology which kids love
From the start Elaine was friendly towards both my son and I, I had recently removed my son from school through anxiety, bullying and not getting on with starting secondary school so he needed a gentle approach and he himself said after the assessments with Elaine she was the nicest teacher he'd ever had !
Elaine is very accommodating if at the last minute my son isn't in the right head space for a lesson, it is no problem to re-arrange it.
I would highly recommend Elaine.
Elaine is friendly and professional. She has an encouraging approach and my son really enjoys the lessons with her and is learning well.
Elaine is such a lovely woman and excellent in what she does would highly recommend her for a child who might need a little extra tutoring in maths or English.
You can't go wrong with Elaine. A brilliant tutor.
Elaine's very good tutor. I highly recommend her. She has helped my daughter out with her maths. Great service.
Can't recommend Elaine highly enough. Works out a plan of action first and goes from there. As a parent it's great to get feedback after every lesson. My son enjoys learning with Elaine.
