I am a graduate from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts' BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Course, since graduating I have been working as a professional actress, singer and drama, singing and music theory teacher.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I offer drama tuition; which includes tuition for LAMDA and Trinity exams, GCSE and A Levels and Drama School Audition prep.
Singing lessons; both Singing Technique, ABRSM and Trinity exams tuition, and Acting Through Song classes.
Music Theory tuition up to Grade 5.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA (Hons) in Performance: Musical Theatre (2:1), A Levels: Drama and Theatre Studies (A), Music (A), English (B) and History (B). Grade 8 singing (Distinction).
- How much do you charge?
My lesson rate is £35p/h.
I teach during the weekdays from home in Archway, sometimes able to travel to students houses if not too far away or regularly hire a studio in Central London, which would be an extra charge. For music theory and musicianship I am willing to skype teach or meet in a coffee shop.
Group lessons are available; they are £45ph if shared with one other, an additional fee of £10 per person will be added after this.
Half an hour lessons are available at a rate of £20.
90 mins: £55
120 mins: £70
Half and half lessons are also available at the same price (e.g. half an hour singing and half an hour drama).
- Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in Archway and a studio based in Central London.
I use a variety of studios during the week but they are extremely accessible (usually by Kings Cross, Camden or Marble Arch stations depending on availability).
I am also willing to travel to students houses in some cases. Areas I am able to travel to include: Central London, Camden, Highbury and Islington, Finsbury Park and Finchley.
- When are you available?
My main teaching days are Wednesday's, Friday's and Sunday's, though other days may be able to be arranged.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and levels. Casual learners are also welcome.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
LAMDA, ABRSM (Singing and Music Theory) and Trinity (Singing and Music Theory).
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Music Theory and Musicianship can be tutored via Skype. Materials (such as music theory grade books) will have to be bought before the tutorial or if for Musicianship exercises will be emailed across beforehand. All work completed should be emailed to tutor at least 24hours before the following tutorial so it can be marked properly.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Developing a passion in the creative arts is something that will remain with you for the rest of your life, so I intend to make my lessons as informative, fun and tailored for each individual.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught singing and drama for multiple companies; Theatretrain, PQA, Jigsaw and Dramavision to name but a few for many years now and regularly teach Music Theory and Keyboard Skills for the BTEC and Degree Courses at The Academy of Music and Sound. As well as this I have my own 1-2-1 students who come for LAMDA tutoring (for which I have now entered pupils for over 100 exams and all results have been merit-distinction pass rate with my top mark being 97%). I also offer Singing Technique, Acting Through Song and Drama School Audition prep. On top of this I am the Centre Director at Theatretrain Camden and co-owner of The Creative Speech Company.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Tell me about some of your current students.
"The workshop today was really great. I really enjoyed the whole thing and the acting workshop was especially fun! The teacher today was really great."
Grace, aged 16 years.
"Emily ran a fabulous Musical Theatre workshop style acting audition for me at the beginning of September for a large group of children ranging from 5-19.
I cannot recommend her enough!
She teaches with bundles of energy and passion which brought out the best in the huge age range and very mixed, diverse range of talent.
She also gave me very constructive and helpful feedback at the end of the session.
She kept the kids under control the whole time and I was thrilled with the response from all involved."
