Emily - Bletchley - Music Early Learning Activities - for children

Methodology

Hello!I am based in Great Brickhill, close to Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes. I've been teaching for many years and enjoy a busy career in performing. Please get in touch to have a chat if you or your children are interested in taking up lessons.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Violin - beginner to advanced level.
Viola - intermediate
Piano - Beginner
Music Theory
Chamber Music
Musicianship - Solfege, movement, improvisation and rhythmic exercises to support learning any instrument.
Early Years Music - singing, movement and rhythm games for the under 5s

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I studied violin at the Royal Northern College of Music where I obtained a 1st class honours undergraduate degree and a Post-Graduate DIploma in performance. After this I went on to study in Geneva Conservatoire with my string quartet - the Benyounes Quartet ((concealed information) - for an MA in Chamber Music.
During school I achieved Grade 8 Piano. I am currently studying for a certificate in Dalcroze which is a teaching method that uses movement, improvisation and solfa.

- How much do you charge?

Free Consultation Lesson!
£30.00/ hr
£20.00/ half hr

- Where do you teach?

I teach from home in Great Brickhill, near to Leighton Buzzard, Woburn, Bletchley and Milton Keynes. I have a good teaching space and a grand piano. I can travel to students' homes under special circumstances i.e more than one person having a lesson.

- When are you available?

As I am freelance my schedule tends to vary but this also gives me flexibility to chat with you about when the best time lessons could work for you.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

All ages! Violin and chamber music up to advanced; viola and piano at beginner level.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

Happy to follow ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall exam boards depending on the strengths of the student.
Also very happy to continue to work independently without the exam system.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I enjoy teaching all ages and standards, tailoring the approach to each individual. I encourage lots of singing, improvisation and movement in lessons at the same time as giving my students strong technical foundations and knowledge of how to practise efficiently and positively. Most importantly,I hope to pass on the belief that music is about performance and therefore creativity and generosity!

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I am currently a violin and viola teacher at Bedford School, teaching from age 7 - 18.
I taught violin and musicianship for 2 years at Young Music Makers in Highgate, London.
Junior Fellow at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Greenwich, teaching chamber music at conservatoire level.
Teacher of amateur chamber music at Dartington International Summer School.
Private teaching practise in Belsize Park/Hampstead and Berkhamsted for 6 years.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes from my current employer - Bedford School.

- Where and with whom did you train?

At the RNCM I studied with Benedict Holland and Maciej Rakowski.
At Geneva Conservatoire we studied with Gabor Takacs- founder of the Takacs Quartet.
I am currently completing a teaching certificate in Dalcroze Eurythmics with tutors Karin Greenhead and Jacqueline Vann. For more information on the Dalcroze approach to musicianship please visit the Dalcroze UK website.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I'm a member of the Musicians Union.
