About Adam
A drummer with 20 years' experience touring, recording, gigging and teaching, I know what it's like to want to learn the drums but not know where to start. I know what it's like to struggle with techniques, setup and how to hear drums and music without any guidance. And I know what it's like to overcome obstacles, small and large, to get closer to being the player I want to be. That's why my lessons are tailored to each individual drummer. I recognise that everyone has different learning styles, and I take the time to get to know my students so I can adapt and improve my explanations. This way everyone gets to achieve things they didn't think were possible or were struggling with previously, and has fun in the process. As a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, I know a lot about music, how drums work in music and how to play well with other people (or with music backing tracks). This gives me a lot to offer as a drum tutor, and I can't wait to start teaching you.

I give drum lessons to a wide range of skill levels, from absolute beginners to experienced players wanting to break into their next level. My approach combines coaching with lots of demonstrations, visual and aural analogies, physical movement breakdowns and how to think about and hear drums and music. The first things I like to find out is what kind(s) of music my students like, why they picked drums and whether they have any favourite drummers. I like to find common ground with things to talk about, even if they're not music related - these things can really help the learning process. I use books from the Trinity and Rockschool syllabi, with which I have achieved many passes with merit and distinction; and I bring in a range of other materials depending on student playing level and goals. I try to get into playing along with music as soon as possible, and I like to use a range of interactive methods to get students using their imaginations and thinking laterally. I find this creates fun lessons that fly by, but also get students closer to their playing goals. It's really important for me to find out what kind of person each student is, and adapt my delivery and approach. Some people like a more serious, structured lesson, while many want to have fun and try things. I see teacher and student as a team, both working towards a goal from different angles. I draw on my experiences to make explanations clear and lessons fun - and I don't shy away from my struggles and failures either, using these as a way to give students context, inspiration and respect based on understanding.

Adam has helped my son pass his first 2 Drumming grade exams in quick succession, but has also introduced him to many different genres. He strikes a great balance between exam prep and having fun so my son never gets bored and always really looks forward to his lessons.
Adam is a brilliant teacher. He’s passionate about the drums, super skilled and very knowledgable, and he will adapt to the musical tastes that most inspire his student. Adam is patient and thorough and genuinely wants the best for every pupil-he cares deeply about seeing them progress and achieve and I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Adam is a top drummer — his skills have clearly been honed by years as a professional musician across the industry, within the studio and live. He brings this deep technical knowledge of the drums into his teaching with great effect and with a spirited passion. As our son's drum tutor, he works very effectively — he knows how to get the most out of kids with a style that is both firm but friendly and engaging.
