My teaching method is based on my belief that the potential to do well lies in everyone to whom I offer help. Many people reach out to tutors because they believe that they are not academically prepared for their exams, and in some cases this is true. But academic potential can only be achieved if you truly believe that you are able to do well.
I aim to do this by directing students in a manner similar to how Iago directs Othello to believe in Desdemona's infidelity, by subtly nudging them towards their own realisations about a text, whether this is to do with poetry, prose or drama. I hope to guide them into writing essays with their own style, showing them when it is appropriate to use what words, how to be fluid in their writing, and how to find quotes that perfectly encapsulate their point, all while providing them with all the support they might need. I also aim to show them how to plan essays rigidly, so that whether they are in an exam hall or writing coursework, they are not under pressure because they know exactly what they are doing.
I am a current undergraduate studying Classical Civilisation and English Literature at the University of Leeds. I have studied English up to a high standard, having attained an A* in my own English Literature A level.
I have not given formal lessons before, but I have often helped out younger children struggling in English where I live at home, and my friends and brother when they were doing their own GCSEs. Regardless, I would love to continue to pass on the knowledge that my own teachers gave to me.
Please let me know in advance if you wish to cancel your lesson.
