Firstly I only ever teach one to one where I would initially test the person on their chosen subject and through discussion ascertain level of knowledge, cognitive function and effectiveness to their learning methods. Everybody learns in different ways be that through physical actions/experimenting or more orally and lecture based. Some form of combination that includes all the senses I find is a good way for students to understand their learning.
