About Valentina
I am a social anthropologist by training, TESOL certified, a global citizen by lifestyle and a genuinely curious and empathic human being. I love meeting new people and learning about other cultures. I have worked in both academia and the business world. In addition to my PhD and MA degrees, I have more than 15 years of leadership experience in U.S. business organizations where I have been responsible for strategy, planning and a variety of programs and projects. I ground my lessons in practical, relevant, real-world situations and examples from the various sectors and environments I've worked in. I see myself less as a teacher than as a guide who strives to fully attune to a student's learning style, understands the student's unique challenges and tailors lessons to achieve the student's goals while making them comfortable and enjoyable. (Student Review) As a teacher, I work to ensure that students of all backgrounds, ages and learning styles feel supported and comfortable and make sure that the materials and exercises I select are accessible, engaging, and varied. I ground my lessons in real-life examples that students could relate to and that prompt their imagination. However, my ultimate goal in teaching is for students to leave my lessons with a lasting sense of empowerment and a penchant for continued learning and success. I have taught university-level anthropology and international studies classes to U.S., Canadian and international students studying toward various degrees, as well as English classes to adult and young learners. I am also skilled at research, analysis, writing and editing. I can help with your business writing and proofreading needs, as well, as I have more than 15 years in leadership positions working across various industries. The feedback from students has always been very positive and many have continued their education in the subject/matter I had taught them. As a trained social anthropologist, I am always excited to meet people from other cultures and to learn from them, as well. I encourage students to play an active role in their learning, with each class and each different student, I find new inspiration and add new tools to my teaching toolkit. I grow and improve as a teacher, scholar, and person through the interactions I have with my students.
