About James
Very Experienced. Highly Successful. Passionate. I have over thirty years’ experience of teaching English across the ability range, at Secondary school level. I also have recent experience of teaching A Level English Literature. I have a proven track record of success in a challenging environment and achieved over 70% level 4 and above in the first two years of the new English curriculum. I view students as individuals, with strengths and weakness which need to be assessed and used as a tool to boost self-improvement. Whilst I see it as my job to help students to obtain examination success, ultimately, I try to foster the knowledge, skills and understanding for them to do this for themselves. I have an excellent understanding of pedagogical theory and practice, having been the Director of Teaching and Learning at my previous school for over ten years. I try to make my teaching relevant, purposeful and, whenever I can, fun; applying these principles to whole class, small group and one to one teaching.
