About Chris
I have been travelling for work and pleasure for 30 years, and found meeting people and hearing about their lives was the most interesting part of my work. I have always been amazed how many people told me “I can’t speak English” who really meant “I am not confident to use the English that I know”, so I decided to retrain as an English teacher to learn how to help people more effectively.
I passed the Cambridge CELTA with Grade A and hold a Batchelors degree in International Horticulture with 1st class honours. I have spent 20 years in the fresh produce industry working with growers and exporters of fruit from around the world.

The key to my method is to create bespoke lessons around content that is interesting and useful to YOU. In the first lesson we will discuss what you want to learn, why you want to learn it and what outcomes we can realistically expect. Lessons are almost entirely conversation based, with themes and vocabulary support based on the areas highlighted in Lesson 1. We won’t practice finding the Post Office if this is of no use to you!
I believe motivated students can find all the listening and reading practice they need online without a teacher. The most difficult skill to master and improve is speaking English well. I believe in giving students space and time to use the English they know in authentic conversation. Each individual responds differently to error correction, and I keep the right balance to push the confident students without damaging anyone's confidence.

Perfect! Really enjoyed my lesson with Chris. I have been looking for a teacher for a very long time and in particular for a tailored approach that I have finally found. The feedback given during the lesson was very well structured and clear. Would definitely recommend!
- Hi. Keep thinking about what you say and how you say it. Don't be afraid of those words!Chris's response :
