- Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning to understand texts and to communicate clearly is a crucial life skill. I work with my students to help them to improve their skills and enthusiasm for English. I am friendly and approachable, and lessons progress at the pace of the individual. My goal is always to help students to achieve their potential.
A typical English language lesson might involve reading and annotating a text together, and then attempting to answer some exam style questions together. An English literature lesson might involve working on reading and understanding a longer text, discussing key characters and themes, and progressing to answer exam style questions.
A lesson gives you the opportunity to focus on the aspects of English that you need to improve on.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked with a wide range of students on a one-to-one basis. My private students consistently improve their grades, and enjoyment of English.
I have also worked one-to-one, and with small groups of students in both primary and secondary schools as a volunteer tutor.

My primary school students are reporting a renewed enthusiasm for English, and have achieved great results in their SATs and entrance exams.
My secondary school students have been progressing extremely well. Several students who were very worried that they might not pass English made it through their mocks successfully. Many of my students have excelled, and expect to achieve excellent grades.
I charge a rate of £40 per hour for online lessons. I offer a free initial lesson.

Helen has been tutoring both my children. Helen conducts herself with professionalism, kindness and discretion with each child. She conducts the lessons to manage the expectations of both Child and Parent and trust her completely to guide my children to achieving realism in their results all whilst promoting good learning habits and motivational suggestions.
I have had no hesitation is recommending Helen to my friends as she is an exemplary tutor in her field.
I am 13 years old and in year nine. Helen became my tutor in September and ever since that day I am so thankful for the help Helen has given me. English has always been my weakest subject. I found it hard and never enjoyed it. Helen has made me enjoy English and most of all has made me believe I can be successful in this subject . If you are looking for a tutor I highly recommend Helen
Helen has been tutoring our son since year 9 and is a reliable tutor providing him with support in preparation for his GCSE English exams. Helen quickly put him at ease with her friendly and interactive approach. Helen is well prepared for her tutoring sessions, is up to date with current specifications, and sources useful materials. Helen is understanding and flexible with her support. The confidence that he has gained means that he is both enjoying and benefiting more from school lessons.
Our daughter has really enjoyed working with Helen and it is lovely to hear them chatting away throughout Helen's tutorials. We wanted our daughter to fulfil her potential and were concerned her results were not as good as they could be. Helen has helped our daughter to grow in confidence. She has also helped her to develop structured strategies for approaching the different English assignments. So much so that recently one of our daughter's answers was used in class as a model answer!
