About Eliza
A former performance poet, English teacher, creative writing instructor, and current environmental journalist, I read widely and I write every day.
I've published poems in Exquisite Corpse, a surrealist literary journal.
My stories about an ongoing, cross-disciplinary investigation of roadkill appeared in High Country News. I'm writing a narrative non fiction book about animal calamities resulting from human transportation.

I write about outsider art for Raw Vision magazine.
For three decades I earned my keep as a psychiatric nurse.
My best work results from immersion in fieldwork with biologists, citizen scientists, artists and mavericks.

I aim to provide a fertile ground for your imagination as you expand critical thinking skills necessary for reading and writing.
Together we'll read and discuss a wide range of literature and poetry to share in the excitement of what language can make happen on and off the page.
I foster exploration in a nurturing, inclusive environment designed to develop confidence in using your voice to share your truth.
We'll take turns leading discussions about reading assignments from a reading list.
I will encourage you to develop a daily writing practice that allows you to ignore all the rules we'll cover.
I'll supply exercises and writing prompts to encourage your wild mind, to give it free range in a supportive, yet intellectually rigorous atmosphere.
