Central to my teaching practice is supporting students to achieve their full potential, through developing confidence in independent and critical thinking, understanding difficult concepts, close textual analysis, and academic writing skills. Sessions can be discussion based, structured around a particular text, or focused on essay feedback, among other things. My wide-ranging and supportive approach led to me achieving an Outstanding Teaching Award, voted for by students.
Specific strengths here lie in developing students' ability to justify, explore and argue for their responses to texts, and offering feedback on written work that supports them to articulate their ideas more clearly and persuasively.
The efficacy of my teaching has led to most of my dissertation students achieving a 2:1 or higher, and GCSE and A Level students achieving B grades or higher.
Student feedback has also commented on my teaching style as making them enthusiastic to learn, and helping them understand challenging concepts and texts.
I have over 10 years' experience of tutoring across different levels - from GCSE to postgraduate - and tailor sessions through discussion with each student regarding what they want to achieve, leading to improved academic performance and confidence.
I have been lecturing and teaching at university level since 2007, and also have significant experience of tutoring GCSE and A-Level students where I have a consistent track record in supporting students to improve their grades in the period between mock and final exams.

Humaira was so patient with my daughter who had got herself in quite a state about her English AS Level. Humaira's steady coaching got her to the stage where she has applied to do English Literature at University! We cannot thank her enough
My colleague recommended Humaira for tutoring. She gave my son the motivation and confidence he needed to do well in his GCSE English Literature. Very patient dedicated and thorough.
I am friends with Dr Humaira Saeed and worked with her as a tutor at the University of Manchester. Humaira is an excellent teacher - she has won awards for her teaching - and is skilled at both demystifying the subject for those students who are struggling and pushing those who are excelling to achieve even better results. As you would expect from someone with a PhD in the subject, she is very knowledgeable about literature, but, crucially, she is also an excellent communicator and very good at focussing on the needs of individual students. She is friendly and professional and able to work with students to meet their own goals and bring out their passion for the subject.
Humaira is a reliable tutor with enthusiasm for English and sharing her knowledge. She has supported and encouraged me through the bumps on the road and primarily in achieving even better results than I hoped for....
