About Catharina
I am a fourth-year medical student at Imperial College, who is currently intercalating in Management (BSc) at the Imperial College Business School. I was born in Cologne, Germany, and moved to Geneva, Switzerland at age 14 completing Years 9-13, I graduated in 2017 with the I.B. diploma (44 points). I have always been passionate about working with people and teaching, participating in several opportunities for tutoring, as well as overseeing primary school kids and being a part of Teddy Bear Hospital in university.
I am fascinated by the different levels of knowledge (molecular, cell, organ, individual, population) that studying in the sciences provides and the continuous demand for problem solving. To me studying medicine is the ideal combination of working in a field that is highly demanding on an academic level, but also involves a lot of interpersonal skills and is based on working with and for others in an environment that requires problem solving skills.
I speak German and English to mother-tongue level (C2), am fluent in French (C1), and speak intermediate Spanish (B2). I am an outgoing and enthusiastic person; in my free time I enjoy reading, swimming, playing Netball, and catching up with friends.

The key to learning anything is to spark an interest in the topic studied. The best way to understand something is to comprehend the underlying mechanism, understanding the logic on which something is based is key to remembering and applying new knowledge. I will take time to establish previous knowledge of students on which to build and set personal long term and short term goals for each student.
Each student has unique strengths and weaknesses and their own way of learning, such as auditory, visual, or kinetic. Having completed the IB, and having a younger sibling doing A-levels, I am familiar with both system and know several excellent sources for exam-style questions, which are essential in reaffirming what is learnt and help students to estimate the progress they are making.
I aim to motivate students by making tutoring sessions interactive and including questions to encourage learning and demonstrate progress made. I am open to anything students need specific help with during sessions, be it essays, homework, or just consolidating class materials.
Having been through the process of applying for medicine I can support students in their personal statements, preparation for both admission tests, and interview preparation.
