About Isabel
I am a Dutch/American student living in Edinburgh. At the moment I have just finished a degree in children's literature, studying everything from how children learn to read, to how teachers select and use literature in classrooms, to how children interact with texts and find meaning in them. I'm particularly interested in how children's and young adult literature can aid multicultural understanding and empathy. In August 2016 I will begin the PGDE in primary education at the University of Edinburgh.
Additionally, my undergraduate background is in psychology, anthropology and linguistics, which informed my master's and has helped me in many of the teaching positions I've worked in. In the pursuit of becoming a teacher, I have worked in a variety of educational positions throughout my studies which have helped me develop as an educator and have confirmed my own passion for not just the field and the subjects, but for the students themselves.
My teaching approach is highly student centered. I believe that education in any form should engage students. They should understand it's worth, while also being able to make it their own through personalization, autonomy and just the right about of challenge. Tutoring should be about achieving these goals through conversation with both the parents and the student.
I am registered with the PVG scheme.

Other Qualifications :
My high school scores are from an American high school so I did not enter them via TutorFair. I graduated from high school with a 3.93 GPA and took advanced maths, science, and Spanish Language courses. Additionally, I took Advanced Placement exams in Spanish Language (4), Spanish Literature (5) and English Language (4).
I danced for 15 years at a variety of studios and in a variety of styles (ballet and modern are my most comfortable ones). Additionally I attended a pre-professional summer program, working with renowned choreographers.
