About Maggie
Originally from Dublin, I am currently completing my PhD in Classics at Christ Church, Oxford. I achieved a distinction in Grade 8 Flute performance and thoroughly enjoy playing. I regularly help organise musical events and support performers from rehearsal to stage. I also hold a first class joint degree in Classics and Music and an MPhil in Classics with distinction. My current research explores ancient song in drama, bridging my experience in performance and ancient languages and literature.

I typically offer 1 hour long lessons once a week but am happy to be flexible.
I have extensive experience supporting students in improving their understanding and confidence when taking music-related exams. I am also happy to provide individual flute lessons. I am a practising flautist for over 10 years with experience as an orchestra conductor and theatre music director. I focus on the improvement of technique and theoretical knowledge while emphasising enjoyment and fun.
I aim to make topics seem as accessible and fun as possible. I enjoy building a rapport with a student and adapting each lesson to both their needs and interests. Through varied exercises and regular consolidation combined with an emphasis on exam technique, my intention is for an individual to fully realise their potential. Another major objective is to highlight how subject learning can also support broadly applicable skills such as critical thinking and communication.
At the beginning of each class, I briefly recap previously addressed topics before making the focus of the current class clear and proceeding with suitable exercises. I am also flexible and always receptive to what the student needs and more than happy to work alongside their schoolwork to help support their learning and understanding.
