About Simon
I'm a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing drums and percussion for 12 years. I have played in various bands, orchestras, and ensembles, ranging from a church band to a symphony orchestra. Music has played a significant part of my life from a young age and calling it a passion would be an understatement. By teaching, I wish to pass on the enjoyment drumming gives me.

I aim to make drumming as fun as it can possibly be. While I aim to teach basics and foundational skills, the end goal is making drumming an enjoyable long-term skill.
Equipment used will vary based on the lesson location (your/my location or use of a studio) and your experience. I aim to start with the basics to ensure you have a solid foundation before we move into more complex territory. This will cover set-up, reading music and eventually playing along to tracks.
Once the basics have been covered we can move into more complex (fun!) territory. I highly encourage you to bring songs/tracks you're keen to learn as we can break them down together and learn the piece more effectively than you would alone. If you desire to grades, this can be achieved, but naturally requires a greater emphasis on rudiments and wider musical knowledge.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I highly recommend Simon as a tutor. He is incredibly thoughtful in his approach, taking the time to understand not only the subject matter but also the individual needs and learning style of each student. As a high-functioning, reliable, and insightful tutor he consistently creates an encouraging environment that helps students gain both confidence and clarity in their work. With his extensive experience he is able to explain complex ideas in an accessible way, and provide the patience and genuine investment necessary to make him an exceptional tutor.
Simon is diligent and dedicated young person who is committed to whatever is assigned to him.
He his easy to get along with and adapt quickly to any environment he finds himself.
He is amiable, witty, bright and passionate about Maths, Physics and Design Technology.
I will recommend Simon for this job.
I hope this helps.Simon is a honest, hard working young man who enjoys transferring his knowledge to other students and help then as well.
I have known Simon since the beginning of his design studies when he was 14 and have taught him during both his IGCSE (2015-2017) and A-level (2017-2019) in Product Design (each being the highest level of engineering and design-focused qualification for his age). The work Simon did in the Design Schools exemplifies what we, the design faculty at Eton, hope students would work towards in our discipline. He regularly made the links and distinctions between his natural science and mathematic studies and his studies of materials science, technology and design in the Design Schools. He frequently worked collaboratively with peers both within and without the taught curriculum to develop his design and engineering projects. An example of this was when he covered a wave concept in his physics class which touched on his musical interests and thought he would be able to create a future resource for his teacher. In the little free time he had, he created a physical rig to emulate an electrical guitar. His rig demonstrated the harmonic link between different materials, geometries, pickup positions and frequencies whilst providing Simon with excellent experience in applying understandings of natural science.
Within the curriculum, Simon approached his studies extremely carefully and consistently aimed for the highest possible result. He has worked to develop what appeared to be a particular affinity for the subject knowledge and constantly pushed himself far further than the confines of one syllabus. As part of our course too, Simon worked with a number of companies to contribute to their product development. These included work with some peers from other local schools and with Dyson (a nationally renowned British technology company), an industrial design project for Bang & Olufsen (a European high-end audio-visual electronics company) and some basic rigid sail modelling for an afternoon with the British America’s Cup Team, Ben Ainslie Racing. Throughout all of these projects Simon showed a real ability to weave together the industrial knowledge he gained with the theoretical, natural and materials science we covered in school.
Outside of the curriculum, Simon was a key member of our STEM committee who worked towards the promotion of a unified and coherent structure for STEM subjects to collaborate more closely and publish work more widely and increasingly rigorously. In this capacity he worked with teachers and students to both manage and administer events, research and projects within the school community. Separately, Simon was selected as the Keeper (Head) of Design for his outstanding commitment and contribution to the Design Schools. Alongside his academic standing, he was selected for this role for his consistent involvement with the Engineering and Design Society (where he also sat on the committee) and in his support of younger students.
All of the above goes some of the way to showing how supportive and enthusiastic Simon was about his studies and the community around him. Since his last session this year supporting the young (12 year old) students, who come to visit the Design Schools for an afternoon of design and engineering project work, it struck me that future sessions would not be as enjoyable or quite as beneficial for the students without him.View more recommendations
