About Hayley

I'm a mathematics teaching fellow for Engineering maths at the University of Bristol. I have a PhD in mathematics for Wifi from the University of Bath.

Outside of my academic work I am a triathlete with my favourite discipline being open water swimming. With mathematics being a primarily indoor job having an outdoor hobby provides a good balance.

About the lesson

Initially I will evaluate any areas of weakness. We will then breakdown these areas into to small pieces and work on these until the student builds confidence. Once confident with this area we will review strengths and weaknesses again.

Each lesson will be 1 hour and comprise mostly of example questions. I will start by asking the student what they know about the area already and how they would attempt the question without my help. We will then work through the question together. The examples will progressivley become more complicated and we will discuss the relationship between the simple and complicated problems.

This approach builds a strong understanding and foundation for mathematics.

I have recently finished my PhD in maths. I have been teaching university students for 5 years. In the last years I have been tutoring online 1-1 for GCSE, A-Level and KS3. I have also worked in outreach for the last 8 years. Our outreach sessions take one off inspirational maths sessions into schools to show students some of the wonders that maths can bring.
