About Katherine
I am a final year Maths and Statistics student at the University of Leeds and have been tutoring primary school to GCSE Level students for just over a year.
I enjoy tutoring and using my knowledge of both pure and applied maths to help students understand the maths in their curriculum as well as how the maths they are learning can be used to solve real world problems in academia and industry.

I approach each student as an individual and begin with understanding what my students want to achieve in our sessions. An area that classroom maths lessons often miss is the 'why we actually learn maths' which is something I strive to integrate into all of my lessons. I believe that particularly in pre-A-Level mathematics, we are too quick to force children to learn maths in a purely theoretical way and we should focus more on explaining to young people how maths is applied to things outside of exams!
Tutoring can create the perfect extra teaching time needed to explore the 'why' as well as the 'how' particularly when it comes to mathematics so if an applied approach sounds like the ticket for you or your child, do reach out!
