Hello! I'm Barnaby, a musician and teacher based in East London. I studied Music at Oxford University and have been teaching for the past four years. I have a background in both classical and jazz, and am particularly passionate about improvisation. My lessons are fun and always take into account my students' ambitions. I always structure the learning into long and short-term goals so that we can make quick progress!
I teach piano and singing to all ages and abilities and have experience entering students into ABRSM/Trinity exams as well as experience teaching students who don't wish to go the exam route.
I teach Music Theory, Piano and Singing to all ages and levels. I've been teaching privately for the last four years and I also taught Music at St Paul's Cathedral School, so I have great experience teaching both groups and individuals. Other agencies I teach at include Islington Piano Teachers, Tavistock Tutors and Expert Tuition.
I have a wide range of performance experience, such as singing with London Vocal Project (Pete Churchill, Royal Academy of Music), and playing percussion in Rhythms of the City (Barak Schmool, Guildhall School of Music and Drama). Performances include those at King's Place and Jazz Cafe, Camden. I'm also a musical assistant at Hackney Children's Choir (Tom Daggett, St Paul's Cathedral), and an accompanist at Cantignorous Chorus, Hackney, working with all sorts of ages and needs.
Other relevant experiences include leading vocal group, The Oxford Gargoyles and selling out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as being a choral scholar at University Church of St Mary the Virgin (Gulliver Ralston) and St Peter's College (Jeremy Summerly).

Perfect! Really enjoyed my first lesson with Barnaby. He is very experienced in teaching and knows how to structure and fine tune learning to achieve the personal goals that are unique to each student. Highly recommended :)
Leare has a great passion for the music and is a strong sight-reader. Now she needs to do a little more work on the technical side (scales etc) to get fingering and those aspects really solid. Nice jobs!
Excellent! Barnaby is very knowledgeable and helpful! He is very good at explaining things and presenting music theory in various examples with different instruments. He is always on time, flexible and professional. I would recommend him to my friends and families.
Very good first lesson with Angie. She needs to start believing in her abilities much more, which will come with practice!
