Lesson planning is a vital component of the teaching-learning procedure. Therefore, in essence, there are several reasons why teachers should have a lesson plan:
• it helps the teacher remain focused on the aim of the lesson
• even the “best” lesson plans might need adaptation when something unforeseen happens
• concentrates on primary and secondary aims
• A well thought out lesson would integrate elements from receptive and/or productive skills
• highlights possible anticipated problems and what solutions can be incorporated
• material within the lesson should be varied so as to engage the learner, elicit information
and create participation
• tasks should be manageable for learners with specific and clear instructions and teacher
should provide examples at all times
• lesson plans are a stepping stone for a continuation and /or expansion of previously taught
material
