About Oliver
I am an experienced Teacher of Science, currently working at Avonbourne Academies, with experience teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics from KS3 through to GCSE level. I have also been a private tutor for over 5 years, supporting students with a wide range of abilities and helping them to achieve their academic goals.
My lessons are carefully structured to help students build strong subject knowledge, improve recall and develop confidence. I use metacognitive strategies to help students identify what they know, understand where they need to improve, and develop effective approaches to independent learning.
Once students have developed a secure understanding of the key knowledge, we focus on applying concepts and developing exam technique through exam-style questions. Homework and regular assessment tasks are also used to reinforce learning, identify gaps and monitor progress.
I believe that patience, encouragement and positive relationships are essential to successful learning. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and understand that mistakes are an important part of learning. By developing resilience alongside subject knowledge, I help students become more confident, independent learners and feel well prepared for their exams.
