About Katherine
I have been giving English/Polish Language lessons for a couple of years having worked with a group of adults between the ages of 28-55. The students I have taught have benefited from my commitment, patience and generally a positive attitude since I wanted to make sure they progress successfully towards their goal and also enjoy the experience along the way and in every part of their learning journey. One student in particular was struggling with building sentences and vocabulary. I supported and encouraged them, showing that they're capable. I gave a few simple exercices where they could practise their vocabulary with help of dictionary and reading the text out loud until they were confident, but also giving them a chance to describe the meaning behind the text, and next write what they understood in their own words. This approach helped the student become more confident in their own abilities and motivated them further to improve on those areas.

In the first lesson I would establish realistic goals and objectives based on what the student is hoping to achieve. I would encourage the student to express their opinions openly and gradually help build their confidence. Key here is to be friendly, patient and supportive so the student feels they are listened to without judgement. However, I do offer an informal feedback regularly focusing on their strengths, achievements and areas to work on. It's important that the student is comfortable around me, is shown respect and support at all times, and they learn in a positive, engaging atmosphere. I will motivate the student to make the best contribution they could in the process. At the end of each lesson I like to ask the student if they have any questions, what they've learnt so far, or simply how they feel the lesson went. This kind of feedback will allow me to see what I need to improve on, so I can do better next time.
