I am a native English speaker and TEFL qualified teacher, currently teaching in Madrid. I aim to create a comfortable and stimulating learning environment in which students are highly active in their own learning.
My lessons do not have a fixed structure, instead they are designed around the individual requirements and learning style of the student.
I often use genuine British texts and media to create activities the student can complete before class in order to keep a record of their studies. This allows us to make best use of the time as the online sessions can be reserved for discussing specific grammatical points and most importantly, improving conversational fluency.
In my classes for young learners I use a series of visual prompts in order to translate the lively and active ambiance of the classroom into an online structure. It’s important in my lessons that students are given the opportunity to discover and experience the language for themselves. The children are encouraged not just to listen, but to actively engage in language production and realise the formal structures through their own practise.
There is no official qualification involved, instead I offer casual, friendly lessons to help improve the ability and confidence of second language learners.
I have spent the past year teaching English in Madrid at an academy for both children and adults.
I taught children aged 4-18 and adult classes for beginner, intermediate, upper-intermediate and conversation. These classes focused on improving the interpersonal communication, conversational fluency and pronunciation of my students.
I also taught a Cambridge Advanced Exam preparation class which has given me good knowledge of the content, technique and structure of the exam. In addition, I incorporated tactics which improved the ability of my students to perform successfully under exam pressure.
In my classes for young learners I used games, prompts and materials to stimulate an engaging and enriching learning process. Within my teenage classes I used current affairs and popular culture to inspire debate and discussion which allowed students to experience the language creatively and effectively.
I have additional experience over the past 3 years privately tutoring children in English and working with an organisation that provided English lessons for refugees.
