Perfect! I would like to share my approach to teaching mathematics, which Emma excelled at while teaching my son, inspired by Eugenia Cheng’s book "Is Maths Real?". In school mathematics, there is often too much emphasis on answering questions rather than asking them. Emma endeavoured to show my son the joy, excitement, and mystery of mathematics through open-ended questioning, distinct from the rigid, authoritative instruction often found in classrooms. She used concrete mathematical materials (also called manipulatives) and combined them with games and interactive learning tools, while also encouraging the use of pen and paper to express mathematical ideas alongside numbers. Research shows that one of the most effective ways to learn mathematics is through hands-on practice and written exploration, which reinforces both understanding and retention.
Historically, all major advances in mathematical research begin with seemingly naive questions, yet children’s curricula rarely provide the time or space for such inquiry. Mathematics is fundamentally a continual interplay between intuition and rigorous argument. Innocent questions, born of curiosity and wonder, often spark mathematical stories with unexpectedly profound significance. Emma continually encouraged my son to ask his own questions, nurturing his intuition and curiosity at every step. She has been an outstanding teacher!- Aaron is very capable and enthusiastic and it has been fantastic seeing him engage in challenging English and Maths activities.Emma's response :

She has been an incredible source of support and motivation for my year 6 daughter who previously struggled to engage with maths. She is creative in her approach, ensuring she finds the right buttons to press to get them working towards those aha! moments. Really so happy to have Emma as part of my daughters educational journey.
