About Elena
Hi, I'm Elena, a passionate ESL teacher with Russian as my native language. Having learned English myself as a second language, I truly understand the challenges and joys of mastering a new tongue – from grappling with grammar to building the confidence to speak freely. This personal experience drives my desire to teach: I love helping others unlock the doors that fluent English opens, whether for travel, work, study, or simply connecting with the world. I’m especially excited to support Russian-speaking learners, as I can explain tricky concepts in Russian when needed, anticipate common difficulties faced by Slavic-language speakers, and make the learning process feel familiar and encouraging.

I use a communicative and student-centred approach, focusing on real-life language use rather than rote memorisation. My lessons combine the four key skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—with a strong emphasis on conversation practice and practical vocabulary. I incorporate task-based activities, role-plays, discussions on topics of interest, games, authentic materials (articles, videos, podcasts), and personalised feedback to keep lessons engaging and effective. Grammar and pronunciation are taught in context, not in isolation, so students understand how to use rules naturally. I adapt my methods to each student's learning style—whether visual, auditory, or kinaesthetic—and regularly set small, achievable goals to track progress and maintain motivation. Typical Lesson Structure and Length Lessons usually last 60 minutes, which I find is the ideal length to maintain focus while covering meaningful content. A typical session includes: A warm-up conversation or review of previous homework (10 minutes) Introduction and guided practice of new language points (15–20 minutes) Controlled and freer speaking/listening activities (20–25 minutes) Wrap-up with error correction, feedback, and homework suggestions (5–10 minutes) My Qualifications and Experience I hold a CELTA certification from Cambridge English and a degree in Linguistics. With over 8 years of experience teaching English online and in classrooms, I have worked with hundreds of students from diverse backgrounds. I’ve taught in language schools in Europe and Asia, and for the past 5 years I’ve specialised in one-to-one online tutoring.
