About Darren
I have won various chess tournaments in my career in England, Finland and Italy including a county U18 championship and a county open championship. My current English chess federation rating is 2013 and I have achieved candidate master level in Finland. I have also achieved a peak rating of 2089 on the FIDE (World Chess Federation) rating list. I still play myself regularly: I have represented MK Pheonix in the British 4NCL national league (Division 3) and the Bedfordshire county first team.

I have great experience coching and teaching chess. I have simultaneously run up to 9 school chess clubs in Tampere, Finland with over 100 members. I also coach talented juniors from Finland and England online and 1 to 1. For example, I have coached Ramsey Dairi who won the British U12 Championships in 2023 as well as my own stepdaughter who won 10 Finnish girls' schools and youth championships from U8 to U16 level. I live in Finland and England so face-to-face sessions might be possible depending on your location. I can also teach online wherever I am.
