About Sarah
Hello! I'm Sarah, a professional woodwind musician and teacher with almost ten years of teaching experience working with students of all ages and abilities.
I hold both a BA (Hons) and Master's degree in Music Performance from Leeds Conservatoire and have taught in schools, through regional music services and privately throughout my career. Alongside teaching, I have extensive experience as a performer and am passionate about helping others develop their confidence and enjoyment of music.
I teach clarinet, saxophone, other woodwind instruments and music theory, supporting everyone from complete beginners to advanced students preparing for exams, auditions and performances.
My students often describe me as patient, encouraging and highly organised. I believe that clear goals, good communication and a positive learning environment are key to making consistent progress. Whether you're learning for fun, working towards qualifications or returning to music after a break, I aim to provide lessons that are supportive, structured and enjoyable!

I am an experienced woodwind teacher offering lessons in clarinet, saxophone, other woodwind instruments and music theory for students of all ages and abilities.
My lessons are tailored to the individual student and combine technical development, musicianship, sight-reading, repertoire building and performance skills. I place a strong emphasis on helping students become well-rounded musicians, whether their goal is to take exams, perform confidently, join ensembles, or simply enjoy making music.
Lessons are typically 30 or 60 minutes long and are structured around clear goals and regular progress tracking. I encourage students to keep a practice diary and provide written notes to help them stay focused between lessons. Duet playing and ensemble skills are also an important part of my teaching, and I encourage students to get involved with local music groups where appropriate.
I have experience teaching students with special educational needs, physical disabilities and performance anxiety, and I strive to create a supportive, honest and encouraging learning environment. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced player preparing for exams or auditions, lessons will be designed to help you achieve your musical goals!
