About Jonathan

Jonathan Davies is a London-based creative producer specializing in storytelling through video production, with a rich background in commercial work and documentaries.

A master in Adobe Creative Cloud, Jonathan also brings to the table skills in story development, research, verbal communication, presentation, interviewing, and editorial judgment, among others.

Upholding principles such as objectivity in filmmaking, giving voice to the underrepresented, venturing into hard-to-reach stories, and challenging conventional narratives, he adeptly navigates the complexities of each project from location scouting to budgeting and scheduling.

With hands-on experience in camera operation, motion graphics, sound mixing, and risk assessments, Jonathan offers a comprehensive, real-world perspective on documentary filmmaking—making him an ideal tutor for aspiring filmmakers.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is rooted in real-world application, integrating both the art and science of filmmaking. Each lesson kicks off with a discussion on storytelling principles, focusing on how to convey a message objectively and compellingly. We then move into hands-on practice, using industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Cloud, and cover key topics such as story development, editing, and sound mixing. My approach is highly customizable, adapted to each student's unique learning style and project goals. As a filmmaker committed to giving voice to the voiceless, I also provide insights on identifying and approaching hard-hitting, underrepresented topics. I incorporate risk assessment, budgeting, and scheduling exercises to prepare students for the challenges of filmmaking. Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your skills, my comprehensive yet flexible approach is designed to empower you to tell compelling stories through the lens.

Jon has been giving me lessons in photography since 2021 and it has been an exceptional journey of learning with him. Having graduated from University of the Arts London, he provides industry standard tips and tricks to aspiring photographers (might I say, at a much cheaper rate).

He has vast experience in filmmaking, and always has a good story of his own to tie his lessons to - he has produced content from Antarctica, Vietnam, Morocco and the Maldives, which easily qualifies him as an adventure photographer also.

One thing that elevates Jon out of competition is his patience. No matter if you’re a pro, or if you’ve just got your camera, he will definitely be able to advise you accoding to your level.

He is also passionate about photography, which makes his lessons really fun. Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend Jon! I hope you will find your lessons to be as rewarding as I have.
