About Louisa
With an English degree from Durham University, I have tutored English privately for 5 years. I also moderate and teach monthly English Literature webinars. I achieved an A* grade at A-level in English literature, and I’m keen to share my passion!

I have taught a wide range of students over the past 4 and a half years. My aim is to understand the unique mental processes of each student, and how they approach new information, to eventually help them develop a clear understanding of the demands of a question, in whichever way works for them. I find that students often get frustrated and ‘give up’ on English at school, thinking it's 'just not for them', because each of the 15-30 students in a class has a totally different way of learning. Shakespearean English, for example, can seem extremely daunting, especially as a compulsory part of the curriculum. I try to guide my student towards making general sense of the passage, or in a very cheesy way, letting the passage 'come to them' before panicking about onomatopoeia or sibilance. Most students get that ‘click’ moment as soon as they are able to clearly articulate (in their own words) exactly what it is we are trying to understand and prove, instead of just using long words and ticking a box! This often helps to break those difficult concepts down, enabling them to formulate a coherent and well-structured answer, without me merely telling them what to think. English can be so fabulous once you understand those fundamentals, and the value of individual critical thinking. I try my best to make lessons enjoyable and engaging, in this way.

Perfect! I honestly highly recommend anyone who is struggling with English Language. Previously, I had thought that improving my English Language grade was impossible, but since starting lessons with Louisa, I have started to enjoy English Language more and more and definitely seen an improvement in my exams.
Louisa is a very kind and supportive tutor and I cannot recommend her enough! I walked away with an English Language grade of 7, and I cannot be more thankful! During lessons, we would break down the paper question by question, into much simpler components, making it easier to understand + we also went through improvements I could have made, which has helped ALOT!!
