About Jack
I completed an integrated Master's degree in Chemistry at Durham University from 2012-2016, including 5 months conducting research in a laboratory in Grenoble, France. I then went to Aberystwyth University to complete my PGCE (teaching training). I have always been passionate about education and high-quality teaching and learning experiences. I spent 5 years teaching GCSE and A-level Chemistry at a large comprehensive school; for the last of these five years I was Head of Chemistry. I have a proven track record of success in enabling students to reach the highest grades. In 2022, 67 % of A-level grades were A*-A and 92 % were A*-C. One of my particular strengths is explaining difficult concepts to students. Because of my strong academic background I understand ideas in depth and I can therefore explain things in a clear and understandable way. I am passionate about my subject and I want students to succeed. I have recently returned to university to indulge another of my passions and am studying for an MA in Linguistics. My other interests include cycling, cooking, languages, reading and the outdoors.

I am a specialist Chemistry teacher with extensive experience of GCSE and A-level. I can help you really understand the challenging concepts in this subject. One of my strengths is explaining ideas clearly and concisely. We can practise calculations, drawing electron arrangements, organic chemistry, reaction trends, or any other topic you are finding difficult. I can also do general revision and exam technique sessions. I will prepare interesting tutoring sessions tailored to you, of between 45 and 90 minutes in length

Jack is an outstanding Chemistry teacher who has years of experience teaching students of all abilities from ages 11–18. He increased the rate of A*/A passes at both A-level and GCSE whilst working as Head of Chemistry in an excellent high school. He is committed to making sure all students have a deep understanding of all chemical concepts allowing them to become independent and confident chemists. Many students have gone on to successfully study medicine, veterinary science and dentistry at Oxford, Cambridge and Russel group universities.
