About David
I've been teaching and tutoring French for more than twelve years, starting with native speakers at a prestigious school in Switzerland. This was a valuable first experience as it solidified my grasp of grammar at a time I was also studying linguistics at university. I then moved around a bit between NY and Switzerland. In NY I tutored in after-school programs, in groups or individually, as well as in corporate settings. I've had students of all ages, levels, and learning styles. I also had an amazing position as a teacher in an international school in Geneva where I got to teach French to non-native speakers in a very formal and rigorous setting in preparation for European proficiency certifications (DELF in particular).

Typically, lessons consist in a preliminary assessment, establishment of goals and agreement on methodology. If you're starting from scratch, the most common approach will be to go over phonetics first, then basic structures and concepts before evolving into conversation/dialogue-based material with regular grammatical focuses and recaps. I do teach all levels to students with different needs, so there's a lot of variation. The fact that I'm totally bilingual allows me to highlight the differences and commonalities with ease and humor, making a "foreign" language more familiar, and a native language more rational.

Perfect! Slow and patient with conversation in French. David allows me to finish my thought in French before going back and corrected my errors, which is much less disruptive and less intimidating than being repeatedly interrupted with corrections.
He grew up bilingual, so he easily gets the nuances of both languages, and can hop back and forth between the two effortlessly.View more reviews
