I worked with Jane in the languages department of a girls' school for a number of years. We both taught French and German and shared the A level group in German. Jane is an excellent and highly competent teacher, always achieving superb results with her students and constantly looking for ways to inspire young people to learn languages. She received 'outstanding' in lesson observations and also in an OFSTED inspection and is an exceptional linguist. Having had the privilege of being her Head of Faculty for many years, I know that she is an excellent practitioner who is enthusiastic about languages and is able to offer support and challenge in equal measure. Jane has a comprehensive knowledge of the requirements of current GCSE and A Level specifications and can draw on both her extensive teaching experience and also her time as an examiner for AQA to support preparation for examinations. She has spent a lot of time in France and Germany and a wealth of up-to-date cultural knowledge underpins her work. As a teacher, Jane is always thorough, well-prepared and imaginative and she can also draw on significant experience of working 1:1 to support students. This 1:1 work has included focused provision for pupils with additional needs, extension work for high-achieving linguists and most frequently, activities to boost pupil confidence and understanding. Jane is extremely patient, always reliable and is flexible both in approach and in terms of availability.
