My teaching method involves first evaluating my student, their relevant experience and knowledge, and then deciding with them whether they are more comfortable with a practical playing based approach or a theory based approach. I am happy to teach either method and I find most students have a preference for either one of these approaches.
I like to balance out all aspects of learning the instrument so that my students aren't just playing endless scales! Whether you're interested in learning jazz improvisation, rhythm guitar accompaniment, or shredding rock guitar solos, we will take a multifaceted look at your preferred playing style to make you the most accomplished guitarist you can be.
I began studying music over 15 years ago with my focus shifting to guitar for the last 12. I have worked as a professional jazz guitarist for many years, both as a solo and ensemble player. This is in addition to session work accompanying many accomplished musicians and singers in a wide range of styles.
I have written and co-written numerous songs and musical pieces, including a co-writing commission and performance at the imperial war Museum in London for the commemoration of the 100 year WWI armistice.
I am a versatile teacher and very beginner friendly! I know how overwhelming starting a new instrument can be and how important it is as a tutor to guide a new student through this at their own pace.
I hold a Btec level three diploma in music at a distinction* grade and have been working as a musician ever since. I intend to apply for the Juilliard school's jazz program in NYC next year to complete a degree at one of the world's most prestigious music schools.
