About Tavia
Hello, my name is Tavia, and I am originally from Trinidad and Tobago. I am a passionate and dedicated education professional with over 10 years of experience supporting children and young people in both primary and secondary settings.
Teaching has always been more than just a job for me; it is something I genuinely love. I believe that every child has the ability to succeed when given the right support, encouragement, and opportunities. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child gain confidence, overcome challenges, and realise their full potential.
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), I have worked with children of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and I understand that every child learns differently. I enjoy building positive relationships with students and creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where they feel valued and motivated to learn.
Alongside my educational experience, I hold an LLB and an LLM in Corporate Law and have completed training in Family Mediation (and now working towards my accreditation) and Civil and Commercial Mediation as well as being a Digital Dispute Resolution Specialist. These experiences have strengthened my communication, empathy, and active listening skills, which I bring into every lesson.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy travelling, learning about different cultures, cooking, reading, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. As a parent myself, I understand the importance of supporting children not only academically but also emotionally, helping them to develop confidence and a lifelong love of learning.

My lessons are tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, ensuring that every child feels supported, valued, and confident in their learning journey. With over 10 years of experience working in primary and secondary education as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), I have extensive experience supporting children of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) such as Autism, ADHD, attachment difficulties, and other neurodiverse needs.
I provide engaging and personalised tuition in Primary English, Maths, Reading, Phonics, SATs preparation, 11+ preparation, and general homework support. I also offer targeted interventions to help children who may have fallen behind, lack confidence, or require additional challenge.
My teaching approach is child-centred, patient, and encouraging. I believe that positive relationships are at the heart of successful learning, and I work hard to create a safe and nurturing environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.
Each lesson is carefully planned and adapted to suit the student's learning style, interests, and goals. Lessons may include interactive activities, practical tasks, games, discussion, problem-solving, and regular assessment to monitor progress and celebrate achievements.
As a trained Family Mediator working towards accreditation, a Civil and Commercial mediator, a Digital Dispute Resolution Specialist with an LLB and LLM in Law, I bring strong communication, active listening, empathy and relationship-building skills to my teaching. This enables me to work effectively not only with students but also in partnership with parents to support each child's academic and personal development.
