About KATIE
I am a qualified Primary teacher with over 20 years experience; I have taught in 3 primary schools and was the Deputy Head of an outstanding school for 13 years. I have successfully worked with children across the primary and Key Stage 3 age range, giving them the confidence and knowledge to succeed. More recently I have prepared students for the 11+ and independent school entrance exams as well as helping pupils with Dyslexia to unlock their potential. Enhanced DBS checked.

With over 20 years teaching experience and currently tutoring 20 pupils per week. My experience has taught me that as tutors we are in a privileged position as we can tailor our teaching to the learning styles of our individual pupils; As Benjamin Franklin famously said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
My sessions will be interactive, and engaging, and will vary in length depending on the age and needs of the child.
In my time as both a teacher and tutor I have learned that there is no effective one-size-fits-all approach to teaching.
I work at the students pace, ensuring in-depth undertsanding of the topics covered.
After our initial assessment and consultation with the student and parent, I will spend the first few sessions getting to know my student, informally assessing them, and identifying what their current strengths and any misconceptions they may have. This helps me identify where to pitch the work in future sessions and identify what areas of the curriculum / subject we need to focus on.
All students have preferred learning styles, and I try wherever possible to accomodate all types of learning styles into my teaching.
