About Tom
I'm a professional double bass player based in North East London. I graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2012 and since then I have developed a reputation as a musician capable of contributing positively to a diverse range of musical situations, with a particular focus on jazz and improvised music. I co-lead a chordless quartet, Family Band, with whom I am due to release an album of live material recorded at Manchester Jazz Festival in 2016 at this year's EFG London Jazz Festival. The group has performed at Jazz in the Round, The Vortex, Durham Brass Festival, Lancaster Jazz Festival and Marsden Jazz Festival. I am also a member of piano trio Treppenwitz with whom I recently complete a 17 date UK tour supported by Arts Council England. My compositions have been broadcast on BBC Radio Three's Jazz Line Up and Jazz on Three, performed by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and featured in North Yorkshire Music Action Zone's Early Years Songbook. I have been teaching double bass and bass guitar privately for 10 years.

I'm an enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working with pupils of all ages and abilities. Over the years I have guided students who have come to me for a great variety of reasons - from those hoping to pursue a career in music to people with limited practice time who are looking to have a bit of fun and engage with music for an hour a week during lessons - and as a result I'm keen to work together with my students to find an approach that suits their individual needs, allowing them to improve, achieve their goals and most importantly, feel inspired about learning!
