About Marcus
I started playing piano at 6 years old, and achieved grade 8 at 14 years of age. Since then, I have performed virtuosic albums and pieces at numerous different concerts, and stepped into private teaching at 17 years old. I am now a piano teacher at Sutton Music Centre, and have 2 private students. As a 21 year old, I seem much more approachable and friendly to younger students, and this is largely how I can help them progress much quicker than with other tutors, as I adopt a fast paced, playful style of teaching, that incorporates fun, and a very high level of learning.
In 2016, I earned a full 3-year scholarship with Kingston Music Service which helped me grow tremendously as a musician. In these 3 years, I was offered the opportunity to learn the saxophone as a second instrument. This allowed me to understand music from a second perspective, and I cherished the experiences of performing in gigs in a band.
However, predominantly being a pianist, I have performed countless concerts for different schools and award ceremonies, as well as performing at seasonal events inside the Kingston Music Service.

I ensure a bubbly and approachable lesson for young beginners, including rewards, and soft toys to create a secure environment for learning. This style makes it much more enjoyable for children to learn, and is how I am able to get complete beginners to grade 2 and higher in under 12 months as I drill the basics in a very fun, but disciplined manner. Once these basics of finger positioning, strength, rhythm and sightreading are improved, and to a substantially higher degree than most other teachers require at this level, my students are able to rise up grade 1-5 much faster than other students.
Older students, and those that are at higher standards of grade 3 and above, will still be required to ensure that these basics are mastered under my tutelage, particularly if previous teachers have not taught these techniques up to an adequate standard. After this, we begin to integrate more advanced techniques such as phrasing and stylistic interpretation, as well as much more advanced finger techniques and body movement. Many of these techniques are not introduced by regular piano teachers, but I am able to incorporate them into lessons with all ages, as I ensure basic standards at all grades.

Under Marcus, I got distinction grades in both ABRSM grade 5 and 6 in under 8months. He can very clearly teach advanced techniques, in very simple ways that are so easy for me as a student to learn, and I have been able to improve faster than ever.
He has a super fun approach to learning, which has been contagious and made me enjoy practising, which has never been the case before.
I have also learnt lots of finger techniques for help with practising my articulation and ways to use my body to help with dynamics. He really has so many different tips and tricks to learning the piano that other teachers I have had don't teach.Marcus is such an amazing teacher. He helped improved my 7 year old son, Daniel from grade 1-3 in only 4 months, and has a wonderful approach to teaching. Marcus helped my son fix his incorrect, old technique, which old teachers did not address properly.
Marcus also implements a unique technique where he requires parents to watch lessons, to ensure that the parent will have an active role in your child's practise at home. During the lessons, Marcus will outline any problems, and clearly detail the problem to both child and parent, and then address how to practise at home, and importantly, quickly teach the parent how to help your child practise the problem at home, whilst hardly taking any time out of the lessons. This is something I have not seen other tutors do, and has truly made a difference in how my son has improved, but also has helped strengthen my bond with Daniel, as we spend more time with each other.
He brings stickers and soft toys and made my son have so much fun during the lesson by making him march on the spot and play catch with toys to learn the right rhythm. He truly helped my son learn so much faster than any other piano teacher in the past.
Marcus clearly has lots of experience in playing and teaching, and is evident in how much fun my son has had whilst learning in the last 4 months.View more recommendations

Details
Half hour sessions at £20 are often easier on the brain, and I would advise for younger children.
For older students, I recommend 45minutes - 1hour per lessons, to ensure that there is enough time during lessons to address as much as possible, without going overboard and losing concentration.
