About Mark
Hi, I am a professional musician who was trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and has performed with professional orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic and bands on TV, radio and in theatre and concert halls around Europe.
I am also really passionate about teaching all ages, from beginner to advanced level and love my work as a teacher. Having taught over 400 students in the area I have an extensive network and a lot of experience which has enabled me to develop my own unique methods which make learning both fun and effective.
The first lesson is a free trial. I prefer to teach at your home. Lessons can be 30, 40 or 60 minutes duration payable by standing order.
I teach piano, guitar, brass, theory, composition and songwriting all to grade 8 + level using Trinity College, Rock School or ABRSM as you wish. I also have my own curriculum which will expand on the grade system and includes creative work.

I am passionate about music education and have over the years constantly updated and reviewed my method which is a mixture of creative and technical work. Music is a fascinating mixture of cognitive and physical skills like no other activity and has huge benefits for players of all ages. I like to focus on building long-term memory which enables you to play with ease and enjoyment for your own relaxation. There is a special focus on sight reading to fluency and also being able to create music of your own which I regard as a vital part of the process of developing your own musical style.
Many of my students have gone on to build careers in music, playing in their own successful groups and continuing to develop in this dynamic and multifaceted field.
I believe a career in music is a valid and rewarding aim for those with drive and determination and can also open doors to many other fields such as understanding psychology, health, history, cultural studies, other performance arts, media, radio, film, TV and music study even has applications within the sports and physical education sphere.
Learning to play a musical instrument is an education in itself!
Plus, music should always be fun :)

Mark has been brilliant. After an old school teacher who hit my son's hands when he got a wrong note Mark is the total opposite. He has reignited our child's love for music (both guitar AND piano!!) in no time at all even on the toughest and most tiring of days.
For our other son he has made music, calm, fun, and exploratory, sometimes indulging in improv or bringing in modern songs to keep lessons engaging and embedding a lifelong love of music that he will always lean on. Thank you Mark you are so kind and truly gifting our boys the love of music for life!Mark is an amazing teacher, I cannot recommend him highly enough. Lessons are available for 30 (£24), 40 (£32) or 60 (£48) minutes each - payable by monthly standing order. Most music is included in the fees. Exam fees payable separately.
