About Vera
I have a master-level teaching degree in French, Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Vienna and have studied at the New Sorbonne University in Paris in the Department of French as a Foreign Language.
I have had 7 years of experience and success teaching French and German as foreign languages. Much of this was at a language school in the city centre of Vienna, where I taught intensive German courses as well as a conversation class. I've also worked as a private language tutor for both French and German and as a secondary school teacher of French, preparing my students for their exams with a lot of success!
I love teaching languages and I find that my passion gets reflected back by the students. I put a lot of effort into creating interesting and stimulating lessons, using different teaching methods informed by my pedagogical studies. In addition to my strong teaching skills, I am a friendly, driven and dedicated teacher and an extremely organised, motivated and reliable person.

As an experienced language teacher, I adapt my lessons to my students' particular needs!
For example, if a student needs to strengthen their oral skills, the focus would be on raising the student's confidence in speaking through fun and lighthearted conversational exercises.
I'm very patient and good at breaking down difficult grammar into understandable pieces and finding helpful, practical and relevant exercises for the student.
I've found that students are most engaged in learning the language if they are given a taste of the culture. I therefore try to use original documents, songs, and articles as teaching aids, and to give my students insight into the traditions and current affairs of the countries whose languages they are learning.

Vera was my German teacher both in a formal classroom setting and for private tutoring. She does a great job providing valuable exercises and customizing the language learning material to each student. Her enthusiasm and patience, along with her in depth knowledge of the language, make her very easy to learn from. I recommend her highly.
Vera is an absolutely fantastic teacher and tutor! I always thought I was just bad at learning languages until I was taught by her.
She was my teacher in a German beginners class and later as a private tutor.
She makes learning fun, she's very kind, always extremely well-prepared and excellent at explaining things. She's also a secondary school teacher so she knows how to prepare people well for exams etc.

I am located in Central Edinburgh (next to Calton Hill) and can give lessons in my flat. I can also travel anywhere in Edinburgh for the cost of a daily bus ticket (£4). Meeting halfway (e.g. in a cafe) is also possible.
If the lessons are not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance by email or telephone, the full amount must be paid.
