About Jane
Newly retired from teaching French language at university, I am not yet ready to abandon the joys of teaching altogether.
I have lived and travelled extensively in France and am passionate about encouraging a love of the language and the culture. (If anyone is interested in French literature, I'd love the opportunity to work with you!) Language learning is transformative, as you acquire a skill and access to a whole new world, and I find this immensely rewarding to be involved in.

A qualified teacher, I have taught for nearly 30 years in schools and in universities in the UK. I am a native speaker of English but have native-level French. I am very flexible in teaching techniques according to need. I teach in French or in English, communicatively in French if it’s practice you need, or intensively tutoring via English if you feel you don’t know how to learn.
My classes are warm, friendly and supportive with an emphasis on enjoyment as well as rapid progress. I love the process of language learning and aim to help you feel that way too! Confidence- building is a key part of that, so we address your personal gaps and needs. I‘ve had many students think that they ‘can’t do languages’ find that they really can, and that is immensely satisfying.
Generally I would prefer 1 hour length lessons, but will consider anything from 30 mins upwards. I am happy to take groups of up to 3.
I am happy teaching any age from older primary upwards, beginners to advanced. Adult learners welcomed!
