About Dominic
I’m an experienced secondary English teacher with many years of classroom experience teaching students from KS3 through to GCSE. I currently teach English Language and English Literature and have extensive experience preparing students for GCSE examinations, assessing their work and helping them make progress across a wide range of abilities.
I particularly enjoy helping students become more confident in English and showing them that improvement is achievable with the right guidance. Having taught students working towards everything from a grade 4 to the very highest grades, I understand that different students need very different kinds of support.
I’m approachable, patient and straightforward, and I try to make English feel manageable rather than overwhelming. I offer tuition both online and in person in the Darlington area.

My lessons are friendly, focused and tailored to the individual student. I start by identifying the areas where they can make the biggest improvements, then build lessons around these rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.
For GCSE students, I focus particularly on exam technique, helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for and how to turn their ideas into stronger answers. We can work on English Language, Literature, specific texts, essay writing, unseen poetry or particular areas a student is finding difficult.
I use plenty of modelling, practice questions and clear, specific feedback, with the aim of building both confidence and independence. Whether a student is struggling to secure a grade 4 or aiming for grades 7–9, lessons will be adapted to their individual starting point and goals.
