About Matthew
I am approachable, patient and enthusiastic about helping people learn. I believe everyone has the potential to improve their English with the right guidance, encouragement and practice.
I have a slight disdain for AI, believing there is a writer in all of us without the crutch of a chatbot.
Whether you want to improve your grammar, develop your writing skills, prepare for exams or simply become more confident using English, I can offer practical advice and personalised support tailored to your goals.
My aim is to make learning English enjoyable, accessible and rewarding, helping you build confidence and develop skills that will benefit you both academically and in everyday life.

English
As a senior journalist with seven years of experience working across regional and national newsrooms, I have developed a strong understanding of the English language, grammar, spelling, punctuation and effective written communication. I want to use this experience to help students build their confidence, improve their writing and develop the skills they need to succeed academically and beyond.
My approach to tutoring is friendly, patient and tailored to each student's individual needs. I believe the best way to learn is through a combination of clear explanations, practical exercises and constructive feedback. I can help students improve their written English, develop their vocabulary, strengthen their grammar and punctuation, structure essays and become more confident communicators. I also aim to make lessons engaging and approachable, adapting my teaching style to suit each student's ability, goals and preferred way of learning.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although I am happy to be flexible depending on the student's requirements. Each session can focus on specific areas for improvement, objectives and practical tasks to help measure progress over time.
