About Elizabeth

I am an experienced Sociology, Psychology and Politics tutor with two years' tutoring experience supporting GCSE and A-Level students with subject knowledge, exam technique, essay writing and revision.

I hold an MA Law (PGDL) with Distinction and a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Criminology, and received the Best Dissertation 2025 Award. My academic background gives me a strong foundation across the social sciences, while my tutoring experience has taught me how to adapt complex material to different students, specifications and learning styles.

My lessons focus not only on helping students know the content, but on understanding how to use that knowledge effectively in assessments. I regularly support students with essay planning, application, analysis and evaluation, exam technique, practice questions and identifying exactly what an examiner is looking for.

I have supported 20+ students through Superprof alongside my wider tutoring work, from students who need help rebuilding their understanding of a subject to those aiming for the highest grades.

As a dyslexic graduate, I understand that students do not all process and retain information in the same way. I therefore use a clear, structured approach, breaking difficult theories and concepts into manageable stages and helping students find revision and learning strategies that work for them.

My approach is patient, supportive and focused on building independence. I want students to leave lessons not only understanding the topic better, but feeling more confident about how to approach their own revision and assessments.

Lessons are tailored to the student's exam board, current level and individual areas for development.

At the beginning of tuition, I identify the student's strengths, gaps in knowledge and any difficulties with exam technique. We can then focus sessions on the areas that will make the greatest difference to their confidence and performance.

Depending on the subject and student's needs, lessons may include:

* Clear explanations of key theories, studies, concepts and debates
* Revisiting topics that have not been fully understood in class
* Applying knowledge to scenarios and exam questions
* Essay and extended-answer planning
* Developing analysis and evaluation
* Learning how to use evidence effectively
* Breaking down command words and understanding what questions require
* Timed and untimed exam-question practice
* Detailed feedback on practice answers
* Identifying why marks have been lost and how to improve
* Revision planning, retrieval practice and study strategies
* Preparing for mock examinations and final assessments

A major focus of my teaching is helping students bridge the gap between knowing the content and gaining marks for it. Many students understand a topic but struggle to structure an answer, apply their knowledge, develop evaluation or work out what an examiner wants from a particular question.

Rather than simply giving students model answers to memorise, I teach them a repeatable approach to planning and answering questions so that they can apply their knowledge independently in the exam.

Sessions can also be used to review school or college work, go through teacher feedback and identify specific areas to target before the next assessment.

I currently provide support in:

* Sociology
* Psychology
* Politics
* WJEC Criminology

Support is available for GCSE and A-Level students where applicable, with lessons adapted to the student's specific exam board and specification.

This support may be particularly useful for students who:

* understand the content but struggle with exam questions;
* find essay or extended-answer structure difficult;
* need help developing analysis and evaluation;
* struggle to remember or organise large amounts of content;
* have lost confidence in a subject;
* are preparing for mocks or final examinations;
* want to move into a higher grade band; or
* would benefit from regular one-to-one support alongside school or college.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, with longer sessions available where appropriate.
